I am from Indiana and read your story in the local tribune from Logansport, IN. I am inspired by your journey and wish you the best. I am 46 and planning a similar cross country trip on my bicycle right now with a HS friend. This is incredible and safe travels.

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for putting this online. I am planning a trip from Terre Haute Indiana to the Gulf of Mexico via the river system. I’m going to start in the Walbash and hopefully make it to the golf. I was wondering what kind of vessel you are using.

        • Hi Robert,
Thank you for reaching out! John’s kayak was a 17′ Current Design Storm GT. LaNae paddled a 15′ Current Design Vision 150. We purchased our kayaks and a lot of our gear from Fluid Fun in Bristol, Indiana, and highly recommend them. You can read our reviews of our gear on our Gear is Great–Gear is Good page.
When are you planning to take your trip? Please, let us know how preparations are going and continue to ask questions.
          Best of luck,
          John and LaNae

It’s been fascinating following your journey. Grant pulled the map out, and he showed me your path. The river jags in and out for a LONG way. What memories your are making!

Hi John and LaNae, It was a pleasure meeting you both today on the levee across from LSU in Baton Rouge. We did find the Eagle nest just a little downriver from your campsite, but no eagles. Anyway Bernard and I wish you both a fine voyage on this the final leg of your journey.

    • Thank you for taking time to reach out to us and for the encouragement. Now that you know where the nest is, hopefully, you’ll see an eagle there sometime.
